I have spent more than a decade teaching PE in primary schools. During that time I was able to develop a successful method when teaching schoolchildren. I saw the level of sports coaching in primary schools and during the time that I spent teaching, I saw how using the right sports coaches in schools can enrich the PE curriculum. It can be done by introducing a fresh approach to teaching sports and PE to school kids through a quality sports coaching provider.
It is unfortunate that in many schools, PE support/PPA cover results in of the following:
- Uninspiring PE lessons.
- Lessons are led by teachers who lack the qualifications to teach the subjects effectively.
- Under qualified coaches that teach sports they have no experience, thus no qualification, in teaching.
- An unstructured PE curriculum.
- Students that don’t enjoy PE/sports in their school.
Most schools take the easy way out by settling for their current PE/PPA cover arrangements. But all head teachers need to ask themselves if there is a better alternative. Fortunately, the answer to that question is a yes. But if you are either the head teacher or PE coordinator of your school, you need to be ready to make the right choice.
In order to help you make the right choice, I came up with 3 reasons why it is more beneficial to use quality sports coaching in schools.
Highly Qualified and Experienced Coaches.
A quality coach will be able to offer the best sports education. As a school, you no longer need to worry about constantly updating their qualifications and/or training because a quality provider would be able to offer all that. They know what quality PE is like and they have a clear philosophy that all coaches follow, which ensures that high standards are maintained.
Quality Cover in Case of Illnesses.
One of the problems that schools face when they use their own staff for teaching PE is when that individual could not go to work because of an illness. The school is faced with a problem when they cannot find someone else to teach students the same lesson at the same level of quality. Having a quality provider will solve this issue, as they are capable of finding an equally qualified coach. That coach will take the place of the original teacher until such time that he is fit enough to go back to work.
Level Up the Skill of Your Current Staff.
Quality sports coaching providers take care of providing your staff with much-needed teacher training. Such training would equip them with the necessary skills and confidence that they need when teaching PE. They would be provided with lesson plans that would let the staff provide engaging PE lessons for the students. Having engaged students equals better results, which would in turn build their confidence in teaching PE.
